From Theatrical Art School to Tattoo Artist
Hello and thank you for your interest in my work.
Here I would like to share the story of my journey.
At the moment, I live and work in Düsseldorf, Germany. I do not do guest spots, as quality of service is extremely important to me, both for my clients and for myself. A strong team, cleanliness, and the right studio atmosphere matter a lot to me. Only when all these aspects are respected can I feel relaxed and fully focused on my work.
My name is Natalia. And I am tattooing since 2014. From early childhood, I loved drawing animals and always dreamed of connecting my life with art. I grew up in a family involved in filmmaking, so I spent a lot of time backstage on film sets. This environment influenced me greatly and helped me define my creative path at a young age. I decided to study theatrical makeup, as I was fascinated by transformation and character creation. I was also a big fan of the American show Face Off, which inspired me even more.
While studying at a theatrical art school, during my second year, I got my first tattoo. I was only 17 at the time, something I quietly kept to myself. The tattoo session completely captured my attention. The ink caps, the needles, the drawings, and the atmosphere of the process made a deep impression on me. That moment sparked a strong desire to try tattooing myself.
For my birthday, my grandmother gave me my first tattoo kit. This gift became a turning point in my life. I continued studying makeup artistry and completed internships, including working at the Bolshoi Theatre. At the same time, every free moment outside of work and studies was dedicated to tattooing.
Over time, I began to see the limitations of working as a makeup artist. There was often a lack of creative freedom, little dialogue, and a feeling of undervaluation. Tattooing, on the other hand, gave me the opportunity to create individual projects based on my own vision, to work closely with clients, and to express creativity in a form that remains on the skin forever.
Eventually, I made the decision to leave the theatre and focus entirely on tattooing. It became my profession, my art, and my passion. Since 2014, tattooing has been my full focus.
I started working from home and learned mostly on my own. Being shy and introverted, I relied on self-education, studying everything I could find online and learning through mistakes. Later, I realized that growth required more. I began attending tattoo festivals, observing artists I admired, filming their work, and carefully analyzing their techniques. Step by step, I overcame my fears, attended my first masterclasses, and eventually started working in professional studios. I also began participating in tattoo conventions in Russia and abroad.
In my work, I see the design and the body as one whole. Creating balance between anatomy and composition is essential to me. I work with deep respect for body movement and natural flow, which is why I focus on large-scale projects that unfold across the skin. In my understanding, a tattoo should look beautiful not only in photos but also in real life, in motion, together with the person who wears it. I especially enjoy working on large, dynamic pieces.
